The beauty of traditions: Sari

Thanks to the fact that I was invited to a traditional concert (Arangetram), and the invitation also included me borrowing a Sari to wear that night and dress properly, I can now share with you some of that experience.

The Sari is an Asian traditional dress, mostly related to Indian culture.
One of it's characteristics is that it has no stitches, and it's commonly wrapped around the waist and it sit on one shoulder.  As you probably figured out yourselves by now, it takes some skills to wear a Saris, if you look online you will be able to even find tutorials in video. [I'm sharing one of the many I found here]
Saris come in a whole variety of colors, textures, and styles. Some of them are embroided by hand, and specially made for important events.

Since an Arangetram is a very special occasion, while it represents the culmination of years of musical study and vocal practice, the Saris worn by the participants and guests, had to be special too.

The concert and the fact of me wearing a Sari, was definitely something to look forward for the past months.
I've always enjoyed travelling, knowing about other cultures, listening to music, imagine. And attending to that event meant a little bit of all that.

As the date got closer, I decided to look for different Sari blouses styles, and matching jewelry.
It was as exciting as getting ready to other special events –like a friend’s graduation, birthday party or even wedding- but I also found myself worried. Yes, worried about not wearing the Sari properly, worried about tripping or walking in clumsy way, and even worried about offending other guests with my lack of experience.

Finally the big day came. My Sari blouse was simple but beautiful, my jewelry was extra special since it’s also custom made, I did use help from my mom to wear the Sari, but all the waiting was worth it. I must confess I had some trouble breathing; it might have been because of that little   Sari blouse, or most likely… my nerves.

The least thing I wanted to do that night was to make people around me, feel uncomfortable or most terrible, give them the idea that I was mocking them.
Getting off the car took me some courage.
The Sari was all tangled in my legs,so I almost landed on face as I was stepping out of the car, and once I was on my feet I almost pinch it with the door!

I entered the hall, and saw all the guests, all the women wearing Saris, and most of the men wearing their traditional garments; I felt shy.
My friend greeted us, and even when she didn’t said much, I felt a relief just by the look in her face. She was happy!

Wearing a red and golden embroided Sari, was a new experience to me, but it just felt great!
When you stop worrying about accidentally stepping on the cloth, or suffering from a shameful scene caused by a not-properly-wrapped fabric; you just let the Sari  give you such an elegant and sophisticated look, and an equivalent sensation too!

The music was wonderful, so emotional, so intense. And the voice was astonishing. I didn’t understand a word of the whole performance, but that didn’t keep me from feeling. During one of the songs I simply felt like crying! As I looked around me, I found that most of the audience was sharing the same emotion. Quite impressive!
The rest of the songs were joyful, I spent that 2 hours, trying to imagine Sri Lanka and India. My travelling has not taken me there yet, but I’m sure this is just the first time –hopefully of many-   approaches to Indian culture.

Even in this globalized era, there´s still so much to see, and learn. Some might say that there’s nothing new under the sun, but not everything has to be flashy and new, neither fast or immediate.
When we decide to go further from the barriers of “different” or “foreign”, it’s when we actually cherish diversity and broaden our minds.

Bring it on!! I wouldn't know how to explain it with detail but I cant tell you that this attitude is either inspired on.. or either reminds me of Shirley Manson, yeap the Garbage's leadsinger.  You know, redhair, black or red clothes, short boots, lipstick, black eyeliner, dark shadows... Bring it on!! The World is not enough", "B

In order to highlight our assets, and to deflect the attention of "conflict" areas,  we must know ourselves,  especially our body shape! In this post, we will go through the different women body types, how to recognized them, and some suggestions to make the most out of your body type.

How to wear a statement necklace

I'm some what petite, and since a young age I've love and collected tiny items, from Polly Pocket sets to tiny handbags, Badz Maru earrings and so on. That love for teeny accessories comes together with its counterpart, my enthusiasm towards chunky accessories.
