Growing out my Pixie / Sobreviviendo un corte Pixie

Ever since I saw Michelle Williams rocking a pixie cut, I had a several months inner-dialogue going on and on, deciding if I should go for it.

Desde la primera vez que ví a Michelle Williams, bellísima con su corte estilo Pixie, me pasé meses discutiendo conmigo mismo si sería buena idea cortarme el cabello así.

Estás son algunas de las fotos que me han mantenido inspirada y motivada en este proceso del cabello Pixie.

My hair started off about 2 inches past the shoulder length  I decided to change a bit and went for an asymetric bob.  Half a year - and all those Pixie cut pictures- later, I got a chin-length cut, which I didn't like at all! So that's how I decided to do some research, and actually found a Vidal Sassoon close to me! Turns out there is only 2 of them in the whole American continent, one in NYC and one in Toronto, Canada; which I immediately took as a sign that I SHOULD do it!

Forget about my rounded face, my prominent cheekbones, and all my traumas... I did it!

Primero me corté el cabello como un bob asimétrico a la altura de los hombros, casi medio año después me lo corte a la barbilla. ¡Y que decepción porque no me gustaba ni poquito! Y fue así que me decidí a hacer lo impensable (por mis traumas de tener cara redonda, pómulos pronunciados y demás..) Investigué y encontré que tenía la gran dicha de contar con un salón Vidal Sassoon cerca de mí, lo cual fue una gran seña de que tenía que hacerlo, ya que sólo hay 2 salones Sassoon en todo el continente americano!

Aquí les comparto evidencia fotográfica de la evolución de mi corte de cabello.

a) The "Creative" Pixie. / La versión creativa del corte Pixie.

Longer tresses on the side while I got use to the overall lenght. 

Mi estilista me dejo mechones de cabello más largos en la parte de atrás de la cabeza, en lo que me acostumbraba o decidía si me gustaba el cabello tan corto.

b) Going shorter! / ¡Aún más corto!

My stylist took pretty much all the long tresses of my hair and just left the side-swept and asymmetric bangs. Even the Biebs had longer hair!

¡Adiós a todo el cabello de los lados y atrás! Solo me quedo mi fleco asimétrico al frente. Hasta Justin Bieber traía el cabello más largo que yo.

c) Growing the top / Y que me dejan cresta
Helping my cut evolved and by suggestion of my now well trusted Sassoon stylist, she left the hair on the top of my head longer. Some gel or styling cream and I could easily achieve Ginnifer Goodwin's hairstyle. Nice!
Como sugerencia de mi ahora estilista  de confianza, y para ayudar a que mi cabello evolucionara, dejó más largo el cabello de arriba, asimilando una cresta. Con un poco de gel o crema para peinar podía fácilmente lograr un look como el de Ginnifer Goodwin.

After some months, a change of residence, and a couple of de-volumizing haircuts this is how my hair looks now...

Varios meses después, residiendo en una ciudad diferente,  y con un par de degrafilados para quitar el exceso de volumen, es así como se ve mi cabello ahora...

I know it will still take many months to completely grow out my hair, but I'm no longer in a rush. I'm pretty happy with it!
Sé que me tomará aun varios meses más el dejar que mi cabello crezca lo suficiente para cambiar de corte, pero la verdad es que no llevo prisa. ¡Acepto y aprecio mi cabello tal cual!

5 Razones por las que deberías (o no) hacerte un corte Pixie

Yes, it's a good idea! / Porque es buena idea

1. It's so fast and easy to get ready every morning! I cut off my morning routine to 12 minutes! Spent much less in the shower and overall grooming!

¡Arreglarse en las mañanas te tomará la mitad del tiempo o menos! Empezando por el tiempo en la regadera.

2. You can pretty much just let it air dry and still look fabulous!

Puedes dejar que tu cabello seque por si solo y aún así verte linda.

3. It's a great alternative to chop off all the damage hair. In my case it also worked to finally dye my hair on a similar shade to my natural color and let it grow without retouching it.

Es una excelente alternativa si quieres cortar todo el cabello que ya este muy dañado. En mi caso, también me sirvió para pintarme el cabello de un tono muy parecido a mi color natural, y dejarlo crecer sin retocarlo.

4. While skipping the flat or curling iron, you will allow your hair to grow healthier and stronger.

Al no necesitar usar la plancha o las tenazas para rulos, permitirás a tu cabello ir creciendo saludable y más fuerte.

5. You will look ultra feminine. Unlike what I thought, that maybe by having such a short haircut I would end up looking like a boy, I noticed that I would accessorize differently and look way more feminine than usual!

Te verás super femenina. A diferencia de lo que yo pensaba que ocurriría, al tener el cabello así de corto es casi inconsciente que adaptes de vestuario y combinaciones, por lo que acabas viéndote mucho más femenina que antes. 

Why it might not be for you.. / Puedo que no sea lo tuyo sí...

1. If you get tired easily of your look. Imagine you get a pixie, and whenever you decide you no longer like it, it will still take you about a year to grow it out. Leaving you without many choices.

Si te cansas o aburres muy pronto de tu look. Digamos que te cortas el cabello, y que después de un par de semanas decides que ya no te gusta... aún te tomará cerca de un año para que tenga el largo diferente para cambiar de corte.

2. If you are not very fond of change, or at least not when it comes to something as precious as your hair!

Si no eres fanática de los cambios dramáticos, o al menos no cuando se trata tu lindisimo y valioso cabello.

3. If you haven't found a stylist you trust, or at least someone whose work you like and admire. A Pixie cut is pretty short, so it's definitely not a good idea to have your hair cutted by a stylist you are not familiar with. Imagine if they give you this kind of haircut, and you won't be able to do anything about it, but wear a hat 24/7.

Si no tienes un estilista de confianza, o al menos conoces a alguien cuyo trabajo te guste (o de perdido no te desagrade), mejor no lo hagas. ¡Para que quieres terminar con un corte de cabello como éste, y tener que usar cachucha todo el día y todos los días para taparlo!

4. If you get too many bad-hair-days because of your sleeping patterns, the thickness of your hair, or any other situation, think twice about it. You won't be able to rely on the cute ponytail, or up does  Your hair won't be too long that's right, but  I did had a phase in which I would wake up with my hair all messed up -specially now that is growing but is still kind of short in the back.

Si crees que tu cabello es demasiado impredecible, rebelde, o si de plano caes muy seguido en los días de peinado difícil (o bad-hair-day), mejor piensalo dos veces.

Claro que el cabello no estará larguísimo, pero de suceder algo inesperado, o que amanezcas muy seguido con el almohadazo, no habrá colita de caballo ni trenzas para salvarte.

5. If you refuse to get a touch-up trim every 4 weeks. I didn't see this one coming either! When your hair is this short, it grows a tiny little bit and the tresses close to your ears and the neckline look just awful and sloppy. Bummer!

Si te rehusas a despuntarte el cabello cada 4 semanas. Esto es algo real y en algo en lo que nunca pensé. Cuando tienes el cabello así de corto, con poquito que te crezca la parte de arriba de las orejas o de la línea del cuello y tu corte se ve descuidado y desaliñado. Hay que mantenerlo en forma porque si no lo haces ¡se nota!
